The Challenge
To work within constraints of a client brief establishing a clear creative direction based on very unique and specific client goals.
With each client direction, students will all use the same visual prompt of a silhouette of a classic Coca-Cola bottle.
The 3 different clients are:
World of Coca-Cola museum exhibit
MoMA exhibition entitled ‘Consumerism’
Lotte World Tower & Mall Food Court
The pitch includes the full animated concept mocked up inside the actual venue. In addition, there will be a working ‘proof-of-concept’ component to the pitch, demonstrating why & how your idea will work in the real world.
You must incorporate the white 3D Coca-Cola bottle on the wall in some fashion. There must be at least one functional user input which controls the interactive imagery. The interactivity must have a reason/meaning, or help to communicate the ’story’.
Brief
Lotte World Tower & Mall is a major landmark in Seoul, South Korea. It is a 555-meter-tall skyscraper that serves as the headquarters of the Lotte Group, a conglomerate with diverse businesses. The tower is not only a prominent feature of the city's skyline but also a popular tourist destination. The adjacent mall is a shopping and entertainment complex offering a wide range of attractions, including an ice rink, aquarium, and virtual reality experiences. Visitors can also stay at the luxurious Lotte Hotel located within the complex. The tower offers breathtaking views of the city, making it a must-visit attraction in Seoul. Sensors at the mall's 73 entrances have registered 3.7 million visitors over the last month -- an average of 85,000 on weekdays and 144,000 at weekends.
The high-tech mall is looking to activate the entrance to the food-court (collection of restaurants in a confined area). The goal of the activation is to attract attention to the wide and wild selection of food offered in the food-court area. One goal is to have this activation so visually engaging that it becomes an instagrammable destination. The more wild the interactions, the better. There are so many options at Lotte World Tower, and their food is known for being visually beautiful as it is delicious. Coca-Cola is used as a symbol for food and drink, so this will be seen as the gateway to an eclectic dining experience.
These are some of the key points my group took out of the brief that were essential to our finished product.
Research
People love to take photos of the food they eat and share them with social media. While thinking of our concept, we wanted to embrace peoples love for a well designed platter.
Our Concept
Design Style
Our design approach was decided on our target audience. Because of the placement of our installation, Korea has a very bright and simplistic art style that we wanted to match.
Technical Aspect
Using Touch Designer, I was able to rig the bottle to spin so when some one lifts their left hand to the screen, the bottle will turn. This will also activate the background to move with it, giving the user the ability to chose which background to chose from.
Proof of Concept
When the hand moves closer to the bottle, the faster it will spin and when it is pulled away, the bottle will come to a gradual stop.
